Devi Sadhana: Mantra Matruka Pushpamala Stava
A Garland of Mantra Flowers for the Divine Mother
A 9-Night Online Navaratri Sadhana
Every evening | 11 – 19 October 2026 | 8:00 – 9:00 pm IST
Welcome
The Mantra Matruka Pushpamala Stava is a sacred hymn whose name means “A Garland of Mantra Flowers for the Divine Mother.” It was composed by Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya and celebrates the Divine Mother as she is present in the very sounds of the Sanskrit alphabet, the matruka letters.
Shankara arranges the verses like a garland (pushpamala), offering each letter as a flower at the feet of the Mother. At the same time, the hymn is a complete shodashopachara puja, a sixteen-fold worship performed entirely in the mind. Across its 17 verses, a sacred mantra is revealed.
The closing verse promises that the one who recites this hymn gains a pure mind. Devi dances in that person’s heart, Sarasvati dwells on their tongue, Lakshmi resides in their home, and auspiciousness surrounds them on every side.
During the nine sacred nights of Navaratri, we will gather each evening to understand this hymn and offer it to her together.
Sri Matre Namah
Why Do Sadhana with This Hymn During Navaratri?
Navaratri is devoted to Devi. This hymn is worship in its most refined form. It needs no flowers, lamps or materials, because the mind itself becomes the altar and every syllable becomes an offering. When we understand what we are offering, the puja turns from ritual into relationship, and devotion deepens naturally.
For the Devi bhakta, this is a chance to worship the Mother in the way Shankaracharya himself did, where every sound you utter becomes a flower at her feet.
For someone new to Vedanta, the hymn offers a beautiful entry point into non-dual wisdom through the doorway of devotion.
For the Vedanta student, it is an invitation to see that the Mother you worship is Ishvara, the one conscious intelligence manifest as the whole world, and never separate from you.
For anyone who performs puja at home, it shows the meaning behind each of the sixteen upacharas, so that your daily worship becomes more alive.
What to Expect
Each evening is one hour of chanting and understanding the verses. No prior knowledge of Sanskrit or Vedanta is required, and every Sanskrit term will be explained clearly in English.
Over the nine nights of Navaratri, we will:
Study all 17 verses of the Mantra Matruka Pushpamala Stava
Understand the sixteen upacharas of puja and their inner meaning, as offered in the mind
Discover how the letters of the alphabet are seen as the Mother herself (matruka)
Reflect on how this manasa puja can become part of our daily sadhana beyond Navaratri
The course concludes on the eve of Vijayadashami, so the sadhana of the nine nights culminates in the Mother’s day of victory.

FAQs
Do I need to know Sanskrit?
Every Sanskrit word used will be explained in plain English.
Will I learn how to chant?
The teacher will chant each verse in class, and you are welcome to chant along. Since the course focuses on meaning and blessing, there will not be dedicated time for chanting practice.
What if I can’t attend live?
All sessions will be recorded and uploaded within 12 hours, and you will receive one link for all the recordings. That said, we encourage live attendance where possible. Gathering together each evening of Navaratri carries a shared energy that recordings cannot fully replicate.
Will I get a copy of the text?
Yes. The text with transliteration will be emailed to you.
Navaratri is a busy time with family, festivities and pujas. Is this manageable?
One hour each evening for nine evenings is the commitment for the class itself. Many find that the class becomes the heart of their Navaratri rather than one more task, since it gives meaning to everything else they are doing. If the Mother is calling you, the time will be found.
What if I miss a session or two?
Please come anyway. Life happens: travel, family, festivals, emergencies, work pressures. Missing a class is not a reason to drop out. Recordings ensure continuity, and your presence, even intermittently, matters.
Why is there a course fee?
The teachings themselves are priceless and are offered in the spirit of the tradition. The contribution covers platform costs, administrative support, and the sustenance of the teaching work.
I have never studied Vedanta before. Can I join?
Absolutely. This course is designed to welcome newcomers while offering depth to those already on the path.
A garland offered with understanding is never forgotten by the Mother.
