Rishi Patanjali who wrote the Yoga sutras) wanted to have darshan of Lord Shiva but was denied at the gate by Shiva ganas. And so he spontaneously composed this prayer in praise of Bhagavan Shiva.
In response, not only did Bhagavan Shiva give darshan to his devotee but also danced to the rhythm of the Sri Nataraja Stotram. Each of the ten verses end with the refrain “para cidambara natam hrdi bhaja“.
May one worship the dance of the great Shiva in the heart.

Key takeaways from people who attended the live course –
Thank you for the wonderful 5-day class on Nataraja Stotram as part of our sadhana for Mahashivaratri. Even though the class was only 5 days, it’s impact was outsized. The puranic stories and the glories of Bhagavan were delightful to hear, as was the unfoldment of the deeper Vedantic metaphors.
The guided meditation and visualization on day 4 was profound and has connected me to deeply to Bhagavan Nataraja in my heart.
I feel so blessed by Bhagavan and by Swaminji that I was able to attend this.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this course available for us.
Om Namah Shivaya.
